She started.

Let’s be real. Starting anything new is a little terrifying and overall exciting wrapped into one big package. I am a nurse and a mom and being both those things is incredibly hard. I also actually started being a nurse when I was 32 and my daughter was only 5. and I was the only parent present. We were only really starting then. But more later….that’s enough background for one post.

Today: This is Day 3 of my time off in a row this week and I couldn’t be happier or feeling any better than right this second. I am OFF. The kids are at school and I am ALONE with coffee! I can breathe in my house and think one thought at a time without the “Hey Mom!” and “Guess what?!” coming at me every five seconds. I get to be just me right now.

Does anyone ever feel like they just don’t know who they are once they converge motherhood and nurse-hood together? OR they do know, but they are still in the merging process? I feel like this all the time….like I am who I used to be before nursing, also who I am now, in addition to the person I am now becoming a mesh of all the forms before that and then also mom me. It’s whacky and unorganized, but then tries to be the MOST organized three days a week from the hours of 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM for my shifts at the hospital.

More later,

Laurel

I’m Laurel

I’m a Mom, Registered Nurse, and lifelong work-in-progress with a love for the beach, healthy living, creativity, and meaningful connection.

This is my space to explore life both in the shift and beyond it—the beautiful, messy, funny, and sometimes completely absurd parts of being a nurse, a mom, and simply being human.

Here, we’ll vent, smile, laugh at the absurd things, share what we’re learning, and celebrate the moments that make life feel a little lighter.

Welcome to my little corner of the world.
